![]() ![]() In my online beginners course, SketchUp for Interior Design, I teach how to use SketchUp in an interior design environment. ![]() ![]() It is widely used by cabinet makers and woodworkers along with landscape designers, engineers, video game designers and, of course interior designers and architects as well. You can find almost anything you might be looking for in the 3D warehouse from almost the entire IKEA catalogue full of furniture (great for those who love IKEA like me!) all the way through to high end furniture and design pieces (great for those who love high end design, also me!).īut SketchUp is also great because you can draw your own fully customisable designs as well - including joinery/cabinetry/millwork or custom furniture pieces. It is also much less expensive to purchase than those platforms as well, making it a widely used choice for small design studios on tight budgets.Īlong with being able to create full custom designs, inside SketchUp there is an extensive database of user-created models (called the 3D warehouse) that are available for download. SketchUp is preferred by many designers due to it being much easier to learn than other 3D modelling platforms like 3D Max or Revit or 2D design platforms like AutoCAD. The software helps you take 2D drawings and turn these in to fully customised 3D models - complete with furniture, accessories and custom joinery. SketchUp is a widely used piece of software in the interior design and architecture community and is great for bringing architectural or design plans to life. ![]()

![]() The Color Rendering Index (CRI) measures the unique characteristics of a light source. Also, check the dimmable logo on the packaging. This functionality must be described explicitly in the product description. ![]() The bulb then switches to incandescent mode, causing the filament to burn out.Ĭontrarily, you cannot dim some LED bulbs. Once your halogen lamp is dimmed to 20%, the gases surrounding the filament begin to accumulate on the capsule glass. However, dimming may shorten the life of your halogen lamp. A dimmer can easily change the luminance of halogen bulbs. It’s reasonable to say there is an obvious winner! DimmabilityĪll halogen lamps are dimmable. In the end, this means that an LED is not only brighter but also more reliable. They may be turned on/off for short durations, unlike halogens. They are also unaffected by periodic cycles. This means that a 10-watt LED will produce the same amount of light as that of a 60-watt light bulb.įurthermore, LEDs attain full brightness instantly after being switched on. Contrarily, LEDs are the most efficient, producing 72 lumens for every watt. ![]() Halogen bulbs are marginally efficient, having 25 lumens for every watt. The most effective way to determine a light bulb’s efficiency is to compare brightness to power. The stronger the light is, the greater the lumen. Lumens are a unit of measurement for the brightness of light bulbs. The amount of light that a bulb produces varies. Many countries have imposed halogen light regulations, claiming safety and power consumption concerns. ![]() They can cause dust, paper, and insulation batts to catch fire, especially if they aren’t installed properly. These lights and their transformers generate a large amount of heat. Halogens are also a fire hazard if they’re near flammable materials. This makes them more difficult to replace. Halogens become too hot within a few minutes of operation. So, they need more energy to produce the same level of light like LED lights. The remaining 20% only is used to produce light. On the other hand, halogen lamps convert 80% of their energy into heat. They do so by using their fins that allow heat to escape from the light bulb’s base. LED light bulbs produce lower temperatures. It’s less probable that you’ll set something on fire by mistake. LED lights are more efficient than halogen lamps, consuming 85% less energy while producing the same amount of light. But an equivalent LED light bulb may emit 1,400 lumens with only 15 watts and a 93.5% efficacy.Īs efficacy goes higher for a specific energy input, a lamp generates more light. It is expressed in percentage.Ī halogen lamp with 100 watts releases around 1,750 lumens with a 17.5% efficacy. The total lumens emitted by the light bulb are divided by the total fixture wattage to calculate this. Simply said, it measures how well a lamp creates light that the human eye can perceive. EfficacyĮfficacy refers to the ratio of light output to the energy consumed. In contrast, halogen lights use more energy and last for around 1-4 years. The life expectancy of LED bulbs is up to 50,000 hours. They have better longevity paired with high efficacy. Based on their longevity alone, LED bulbs are a better investment. They outlast halogen lamps ten times more. LEDs have a longer lifespan than halogen lamps. Other factors, including the brand and nature of use, affect their lifespan. Regular lamps last from 750 to 100,000 hours, depending on their types. Key Differences Between Halogen and LED Light Bulbs LED bulbs are a new trend to make homes more sustainable while lowering utility bills. They don’t have a filament that will eventually burn out like ordinary bulbs.Įarlier LED bulbs were slow to light up, but current versions do so in seconds. They use electronic chips inserted at the bulb’s base. LED bulbs work similarly to a computer because they have a binary on/off state. This light can vary from infrared to color spectrum. LEDs (light-emitting diodes) are semiconductors that emit a bright light when current flows through them. Halogen lamps emit a bright, warm light that illuminates to maximum brightness once you turn on the switch. Most of them feature a pin base, so you can only use them in fixtures built for them. Halogens are frequently used in accent lighting. The envelope is so close to the filament that regular glass can melt if it gets too close to it. They use a filament enclosed in a small glass envelope full of gas. Halogen light bulbs are similar to incandescent bulbs in structure and operation. Continue reading to learn more about the differences between halogen and LED light bulbs. Now you might be wondering which is the best for your lighting needs. However, they have slowly dwindled in popularity as LEDs have entered the lighting industry. Halogens have drawn a lot of attention in the past. ![]() ![]() ![]() George is a fantastic spot to enjoy a satisfying meal in a cozy atmosphere.
